Filing cabinets for index cards in the libraries of the French National Assembly and the Vatican.
Human knowledge concentrated in rectangular or cuboid blocks captured in a frontal photographic image reduces them to the two dimensions of a highly structured image. In the age of the computer, these pieces are tinged with a certain old-fashioned charm. Here we come face to face with the emblematic object of conceptual art: potential creation concentrated and hoarded in a block of knowledge.
Along with the binders by Robert Morris, Stanley Brouwn, Art and Language, this series by Philippe Gronon, acquired by the Musée d’Art Moderne, was exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2023.
