often motivates the creation of a series.
As with writing-desks, blackboards or grading-boards, the scanned surfaces of cutting mats, known as “martyrs” in French, offer traces that lend themselves to interpretation. Here again, their name refers to their use, but it is equivocal. These are objects that are subjected to the slashes made by the blades of cutters when documents are cut up. The series also plays on the slight variations in colour that can be seen from one country of origin to another.
As for the stigmata, unlike those on the writing pads, they are mostly straight.
